Construction work in cold, ice and snow – the winter months are a great challenge for the building and civil engineering sector. Advances in technology as well as the development of new materials and products mean that construction sites can now run smoothly almost without interruptions, even during the winter months. Proving to be extremely robust – even at high trip rates: the CB3 pallet box, a combination of pallet and box made by Craemer. A large German-Polish meat processing company discovered this plastic pallet box by chance. It left such a good impression that the company immediately placed an order with the Craemer group's German headquarters via its representative office in Poland. Besides being durable, these resistant boxes have to meet the highest hygiene requirements of the kebab producer: They are used to transport animal by-products which are converted into animal feed. After successful test runs, the company is now gradually replacing its entire stock of containers from a competing company whose boxes were previously used and have proven inappropriate for this demanding task. 

In addition to hygiene and safety, durability and economy also play a significant role in producing, filling and packaging of beverages. The production of Roquefort, the traditional blue cheese with protected designation of origin (PDO) from southern France, is a delicate process. A manufacturer of this sheep's milk speciality needed a food-safe and robust plastic pallet specially designed for the extremely demanding transport of this cheese speciality during its various stages of production. The French cheesemaker turned to Craemer France Sarl, a sales company of the internationally operating Craemer Group. The logistics company of the fifth largest French food retail group has said goodbye to the wooden pallet and is now building up its own inventory of plastic pallets. For the internal flow of goods between its 29 warehouses and the approximately 1,600 supermarkets in the chain, the freight forwarder has purchased 330,000 of the CS1 plastic pallets from Craemer. The first pallets were delivered in 2018, and the entire order volume is expected to be in use by summer 2020. The company switched from wood to plastic mainly in order to improve working conditions for warehouse employees as well as to meet the requirements of increasing automation and a policy of sustainability.

Leading plastics manufacturer Craemer Group has now launched a facility for plastics injection moulding at Hortonwood West in Telford, Great Britain. It is the Group’s second plastics facility in Telford for the production of wheelie bins, pallets and storage and transport containers. The Group is investing £25m (27,5 million euros) in the new site including large machinery to add new products to Craemer UK’s portfolio: a range of four-wheeled commercial waste bins and pallet boxes, which until recently could only be manufactured at the Group’s German headquarters. The company’s expansion will create up to 70 new jobs at the Telford site. 

This purchase is part of the Telford & Wrekin Council and Homes and Communities Agency Land Deal, aimed at bringing forward spare industrial land for development. Since the launch of their existing Telford factory in 2006, Craemer UK Ltd has grown significantly with turnover increasing 500 per cent to £25.5 million in 2016. The company has been looking to expand its existing site in Hortonwood 1 but have been constrained by the nearby A442 and adjoining occupiers. So instead Craemer intends to develop its new factory at Hortonwood West, creating up to 70 jobs and safeguarding the 65 posts at its existing Telford site.

The firm’s expansion will see it create up to 70 new roles at the site.  Following the opening of its first UK factory in Telford, at nearby Hortonwood 1 in 2006, Craemer has gone from strength to strength, seeing its turnover increase from £5million, to £25.5 million in 2016.

Bolton Council embarked on a project to replace its residents' 240-litre residual waste bins with ones that were 100 litres smaller, saving money in the process and turning the old bins into the new ones along the way, as CIWM editor, Ben Wood, reports. 

With over 250,000 plastic pallets rolled out across 35 logistics centres that supply the brand’s stores, Intermarché has left the rented pallet behind in favour of setting up their own plastic pallet pool - a first in France for a mass-market retailing brand.

The old fishing expo in Glasgow ceased and was replaced by new smaller Skipper Expos in different regions of Great Britain and Ireland.
